The Fountain Pen That Promised to Heal You

Five years ago, I bought a vintage Sailor pen with a wave-shaped clip and a Theta Club nib stamp from a second-hand marketplace. Curious about its origins, I started researching.

Many in the Western fountain pen community believed this pen was a collaboration between Sailor and a group called Theta. However, I couldn’t find any evidence of such a club. Instead, I discovered something more interesting: a connection between this pen and a spiritual healing movement called Hado. I wrote a blog post about it.

Now, five years later, three things made me revisit the topic: I acquired the limited edition 85th anniversary pen, which features an even more pronounced wave motif; I came across a recent news article about Hado; and I finally found Sailor’s own pamphlet, included with the pen, which explains the concept in their own words.
